Curved leg frames jointed with a steel conduit, glued altogether with West Sytsems Epoxy #drinkscabinet in #walnut & #steel
The legs of the drinks cabinet are strengthend and stabalised by two curved leg frames, curving in from the legs to meet in the middle, where they are connected with a steel conduit and a wooden substrate. Both are fitted into the leg rails with West Systems 2 part Epoxy resin into pre-drilled holes.

The carcass of the walnut drinks cabinet is finally jointed and glued together. A combination of sash clamps and the Bessy KR clamps, with their large soft jaws did the trick.

The walnut drinks cabinet is mocked up full size in MDF. A mock-up of one of the doors is completed and hung with Soss hinges. Now all the construction questions have been answered I can now start build the cabinet proper.
Wavy #handle design perfected for #drinkscabinet in #walnut & #steel
The walnut drinks cabinet is complemented by a wavy steel handle that snakes down the carcass front. The handle will be fixed to inside edge of the left-hand side door so the shape of the meeting edges are dictated by its wave. Today I have perfected the wave form template to help create a lamination forma to transform a straight piece of walnut into the desired shape.

I have had a lot of fun fitting and testing the LED lights and mirrors for the new walnut drinks cabinet. The LED lights are so flexible, robust and most important of all, safe. There is very little heat coming from the bulbs which gives you so much more scope for concealed lighting. Should look great once the MDF is swapped for the finished walnut.

Door Shelves for the tumbler glasses are mitre cut and #jointed for the bottom of each door. The drinks cabinet will also accommodate three wine glasses in each door.

Walnut rails are removed from the press forma and planed and sanded into their final shape. The legs have a slight taper on the inside corner and the rails are jointed 80mm from the bottom of the tapered surface, curving inwards to meet each other. The pictures show the rail joining the two front legs.

The new drinks cabinet will have two curved leg rails, one jointed to the front legs and another to the back legs. Using a rod (a 1:1 scale drawing on a piece of board) I am easily able to check and re-check the dimensions and angles of the components and the accuracy of the joints.
Perfecting the leg rail curve for #drinkscabinet in #walnut & #steel
The new drinks cabinet will have two curved leg rails, both peeling inwards from the front and back legs to meet in the centre, where they will be joined by a steel rod conduit. As well as joining and strengthening the legs, the rails are prominent decorative feature and must compliment the overall design so the curve must be as perfect possible. I hope to achieve this by creating a template and adjusting the shape by hand. This template will then be used to create a lamination forma that can bend and glue several straight strips of solid walnut together to make the curved form.

The main drawer for the drinks cabinet is now completed and ready for gluing up. The wild grain on the drawer front was a little too much even for the Veritas jack plane so out came the trusty cabinet scraper. The partition and sub partition are also completed and jointed to the drawer carcass.

The small internal wine rack sits at the bottom of the drinks cabinet carcass and will accommodate six bottles. The pleasing curves on the front of the walls echo the curved doors that will embrace the front of the cabinet. This detail also resembles sails and the Streamline Moderne period of Art Deco that the cabinet is influenced by.

A 12mm thick glass shelf compliments the matching drawer and pull-out shelf for new drinks cabinet in walnut and steel. The MDF mock-up allows for many many harmless adjustments while the finished walnut panels lay stacked and safe from knocks and bruises.
The traditional drawer runs on the cabinets dividing shelf whilst the pull-out serving shelf runs on Hettich V6 soft close drawer runners.

The new drinks cabinet in walnut and steel includes a wide internal drawer, revealed once the cabinet is opened. The wild grain selected for the front matches the front of the pull-out serving shelf, also revealed once the doors are opened. The drawer bottom is lined with black 'Cosmopolitan' leather from Yarwoods.

The new drinks cabinet in walnut and steel includes a pull-out serving shelf for drinks preparation. The shelf resembles a tray, with the front, back and side edges proud of the panel. Today I jointed and glued the shelf together. I find that a childs toothbrush and some water are perfect to remove excess glue.

Today the drinks cabinet in walnut and steel progressed onto solid timber components. The wavy, deep grain on the this solid walnut is a perfect selection for the drawer front and the matching front of the pull out serving shelf. Lovely!

#Veneering New #DrinksCabinet with #curved doors in #walnut & #Steel #furniture #contemporary
The bookmatched #veneeers are glued to the boards and placed into the heat press for 10 minutes! This was a revelation to me. I have only used a vacuum bag press before which takes hours and is quite noisy. Thank you Ned for the use of your press. Next I took all the veneering tape off whilst the panels were still hot. This took only a few minutes. Back in Bermondsey I trimmed the excess veneer and and sanded back. The panels are now ready to joint into a carcass.
